THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD COLE CLASSIC 2010
2009 marked an exciting new journey for one of Australia's largest and most prestigious Ocean Swims. The Cole Family partnered with The Sydney Morning Herald to manage and promote this truly iconic event in conjunction with the Manly Life Saving Club.
A record field of 4,500 swimmers came to Manly for the 2010 Cole Classic - making the event the largest ocean swim in Australia.
Thank you to The Sydney Morning Herald, to the Cole Family and to all those who supported the event. Special thanks to the organisers and the hundreds of volunteers who gave their time to make it another successful Manly Life Saving Club event in spite of the rain and ucomfortable conditions.

from Juliet "What a great day yesterday. Despite the rain and the change of course the swim was really fantastic. When I heard the start and the finish of both swims were to be at Shelly Beach I anticipated absolute mayhem but the whole thing was beautifully organised and went very smoothly. Well done to the organisers of the Cole Classic for an excellent job. Also, a big thank you to all the volunteers from Manly Life Saving Club for their hard work - remember without them there wouldn't be a Cole Classic at Manly..."
and from MS "I've loved the ocean all my life but have only become a 'swimmer' of recent times. Witnessing firsthand the sense of achievement and pleasure gained from a couple of 2 km. ocean swims by my son, I decided that instead of saying to myself: 'one day I'm going to do that', the time had come to act and enter the Cole Classic 1km swim. As a result, I would now like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to all concerned for a job extremely well done, but most especially to the life-savers who lined the course. There was one lady in particular, who supported and encouraged me with much generosity of spirit and patience, on my first ever ocean swim at age 72. She was just fantastic. I can't speak highly enough of the life savers encouraging presence and support. A big 'thank-you' from a very appreciate first-time swimmer. I will certainly be a competitor again next year and who knows, I may even better my time. As an aside. My son swam again this year, but in the 1km. race. Unfortunately, his times didn't register as he was carried over the start and finish lines, he's a paraplegic."Name withheld.
