POOL EVENTS

We have received the following information from Ross Tester Director of Surf Sports Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches:

The NSW Branch Directors of Lifesaving decided that the 2010 Interbranch WOULD include pool events (as close as possible to ILS rules), BUT . . .

(a) They would be held as an educational event only for this year, to give all teams the opportunity to find out what the events are and what they entail;

(b) They would NOT be part of the Interbranch Point Score

(c) It would be an evening/early night event, held on the Saturday night, so as to not take any time away from the Interbranch Championships themselves

(d) It would also be a social/fun event with a barbecue dinner to be held in the grounds of the pool (branches still responsible for supplying their own team food).

(e) There would be NO increase in the size or makeup of the Interbranch teams to compensate.

The plan is for the 2011 Interbranch Championships to include a full Pool Events program as part of the pointscore. Club coaches and team managers should now be alerting their competitors to the new events. It is quite likely that there will be some call on all competitors to take part (eg, boaties and beachies may need to be able to swim a lap or two!).

The SLSSNB Interbranch coaches will also be taking the new events into consideration in their training sessions. Rules for Pool Competition can be downloaded from the ILS website (it is linked to SLSA website).

The Combined Pool Rescue Championships organized by Sydney Northern Beaches, Central Coast and Hunter is to be held on 28 August at Woy Woy pool. This will be a great opportunity for competitiors to gain some skills.

A flyer containing information on the event appears below; more detailed information to be made available very soon. Entries close at midnight on Wednesday 25th August.
