Course Purpose:
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to manage a beach in emergency and non-emergency situations
Prerequisites:
Minimum of 17 years of age on the date of assessment
Bronze medallion (proficient)
Course Content:
- Responsibilities and Duties of a Lifeguard/Patrol Captain
- Regulations at your beach
- Managing your beach and the public
- Media Management
- Liaising with other organisations
- Risk Management
- Search and Rescue
- Navigation
- Patrol Methods
- Rescue Scenarios
Competency standards: Module 1 of PUA31304 - Certificate III in Public Safety (Aquatic Search and Rescue)
Course Duration: This course is to be conducted over approximately 6 hours (this is a guide only due to candidates already being trained in CPR. Time to develop competencies depends on factors such as the prior knowledge and experience of candidates and demonstration of a high standard of CPR).
Learning Outcome: At the completion of this course, the surf lifesaver will be competent in the duties of a Patrol Captain and in the management of the beach in emergency and non-emergency situations.
Prerequisites for this course:
- candidate must 17yrs at time of assessment
- current Bronze Medallion or ARC or Radio Operator Certificate
